A doodle I made earlier today while thinking about how people connect with each other and share their worlds (or not). Perhaps I’ll do something more with it, perhaps I won’t.

The Article

A short fantasy story I started a few years ago, forgot about, and finally finished today.

The Article

In a nearby place, but a far away land, a large group of beings had gathered and were awaiting in eager anticipation the arrival of The Article. Curious eyes flicked strange, yet knowing, glances at one another as they remained respectfully silent for the duration of their wait.

Streams of hazy sunlight shone down on them through small holes in the wooden roof, far up above. It was fitting that today, of all days, the universe had arranged it so that the most luminous of rays flowed down directly onto the small, dusty stage. Solid wooden seats, comfortably cushioned in velvety – yet very worn – dark purple fabric radiated outwards from the modest, semi-circular stage. It was rare to see such a mix of beings, brought here together for the same spectacle, from such a wide variety of worlds and stances. So rarely used these days, it seemed as though the theatre, too, was stood still in time, waiting for something significant to happen.

A “sketch” I made using Gimp Image Editor a few days ago, using that technique again that I like to use so much. (Click here to see earlier examples).

I wasn’t planning to put it on here originally, since it probably doesn’t mean a thing to anyone else. But then a few minutes ago I thought ‘why not?’

I saw this (or something very like it) while I was meditating the other day. It’s not unusual for me to see such things when I meditate, but it’s more unusual for me to try to draw it after.

The Perfect Piece

A (very) short story I started to write a while ago while sitting at the computer uninspired, seeing what would come up if I gave it long enough. I finished it this evening by deleting the last line. If only finishing things was always so simple…

The Perfect Piece

A fresh sheet of paper laid ready before her: smooth, unblemished, pristine white and perfectly rectangular. A pen poised in her hand, on the verge of writing the perfect piece, she awaited inspiration.

The sunlight reflected sharply from the silvery pen, and softly across the surface of the paper. Many hours were spent on the verge, desperately trying to come up with the idea to beat all other ideas, but nothing was ever quite good enough.

As the hours passed the day slipped away into night, and still the paper remained untouched. A flick of a switch as the sun set, and the room filled with a warm, incandescent glow. She would persevere through the night.

The cycle of day and night passed an unknown number of times, and still pen and paper never got to meet. But then it happened, an idea came to her. She stood up, stretched, and left the room.

I’ve been playing around with Gimp Image Editor again. This “sketch” is a kind of continuation of this, in both inspiration and technique.
